Yoshie Tachibana is the head of the Tachibana School of Japanese Dance. The Heron and the Geisha offers a rare look into the world of traditional Japanese arts. In the documentary, we see a kabuki theater wigmaker's workshop, a kimono shop, and a workshop of a man who has been making traditional footwear (tabi) for stage performers his entire life.
The stunning dance and rare backstage footage was taken at the National Theater of Japan. The Heron and the Geisha sets Japanese dance at the center of a constellation of traditional arts in Tokyo, Japan.
